How to appeal a dismissal
Students who have been academically dismissed from the University of Missouri may appeal for continuation through an official appeal to the Discovery Center if they wish to be an Exploring student. Exploring students do not have a declared major and are working towards identifying which undergraduate major they will declare. You must have less than 60 credit hours to be eligible appeal into the Discovery Center as an Exploring student.
Your appeal will be thoughtfully considered. Approval is not guaranteed, so you are strongly encouraged to consider alternate plans. When completing your appeal, we recommend:
- You provide an honest and thorough reflection, as well as a clear plan for academic success.
- You should write your appeal in a separate document, then copy/paste it into the form provided.
- All communication will be sent to your MU-issued e-mail address, so check that regularly.
Spring 2025 dismissal appeal due dates:
- Monday, January 12th by 5pm CST.
- If no appeal is submitted or appeal is denied, Spring 2025 courses will be cancelled for dismissed students.
- No late appeals will be accepted.

If you used to be a degree-seeking student at Mizzou but haven’t enrolled in classes for at least one semester, you must apply for re-admission. If, at the time of departure from Mizzou, you were also academically dismissed, you will also need to complete a separate appeal for readmission. If this situation applies to you, please complete this appeal using this link: Discovery Center readmission appeal.
